Why is it illegal for felons to wear a bullet proof vest?
Why? What if they didnt want a gun but just a bullet proof vest to protect himself from deadly injury. Anyone outside or on the streets could be carrying a gun, why shouldnt felons who arent trying to hurt or kill anyone be allowed to protect and save his own life by wearing protective body armor? Should it also be illegal for them to wear helmets and pads? Do you want them to hurt themselves even if they arent hurting anyone else? Whats the problem and why shouldnt they be allowed to wear one.
You may be OK as long as you don't commit any felonies while wearing a bullet proof vest. But you need to check your state statutes.
Nothing is illegal unless the legislature passes a law that is signed by the governor making some type of conduct illegal. You need to check the law in your particular jurisdiction to confirm the legality or illegality of body armor or bullet proof vests. Please note that just because the elected representatives have decided to make something illegal does not mean it has to make sense.
In New Hampshire for instance this is the law:
§ 650-B:2. Felonious Use of Body Armor
I. A person is guilty of a class B felony if he commits or attempts to commit any felony while using or wearing body armor.
II. Neither the whole nor any part of a sentence of imprisonment imposed for a violation of this section shall be served concurrently with any other term of imprisonment.
650-B:1. Definition
In this chapter, "body armor'' means any device designed to be worn on the body which is bullet resistant and is designed and intended to provide ballistic and trauma protection.
You may also want to know that it is a felony in NH to possess any prescription medication in anything other than the original container your get from the pharmacy (like they want to imprison the entire population of the old folks home). There are a bunch of other felonies you probably don't know you are guilty of except that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
