DOT APPROVED (BUT NOT UK APPROVAL)question on motorbike helmet?
can i wear this legal in the uk or will i get busted my the police?
The new standard is the EU03, this is stitched into the lining or the chin strap.. usually on a white satin lable. So if your helmet has the EU03 tag it is legal in the UK..
The kite mark has been dropped on all but the lowest grade of helmet. the gold seal is only an ACU specification and not a test.
Basically it is illegal to sell a non EU03 catagory (or blue BS kitemark ) helmet for road use.
But unless it is obviously not a road legal helmet ie a Gerry storm troupers type it is not illegal for you to use it on the road..
This is why the abnomaly of the old cork and pith helmets of the 1960's are still legal to use on uk roads even though you'd be foolish too for anything other than a period drama or parade. but not a steal tommy or Gerry military helmet which will offer you a lot more protection...
