Bicycle for Dad?

I am looking to buy my Dad a bicycle for Father's day and I am looking for any recommendations!!! He will be mainly riding it on the road and on bike paths - so no huge mountian bike tires necessary - and no skinny, untra thin tires! I am no bike expert, but I am looking for a "hybrid" type, between a road and mountain bike for everyday use. My family used to have a few Trek bikes that held up pretty well. Let me know any opinions! Thanks!

The hottest bikes right now are the Electra and the felt bikes. Both are pretty cheap, but well built and very comfortable to ride. My husband and I both had electra's with 24 gears and rode them everywhere. We now have specialized serris as we wanted a little more speed.
