Why isn't more research done to establish the warming effect of black carbon?
The greenhouse effect of CO2 and gases arise from the trapping of heat radiation given off by the earth’s surface. On the other hand, the warming effect of Black Carbon arises because it retains or traps the solar radiation reflected by the earth’s surface and clouds, which would have otherwise escaped to space. The CO2 warming effect is known within ±15%, whereas the estimated BC effect is subject to a threefold or larger uncertainty.
In order to tackle GCC effectively, isn't it important to get a better handle on this kind of information?

You know that's a good question. It's a really intersting and important topic, given that it's likely the second largest contributor to global warming behind greenhouse gases. And as your link discusses, atmospheric brown clouds are another important subject (masking the full effects of global warming) with high uncertainty (on the order of 50%).
I definitely think both of these subjects should be researched a lot more if we're going to successfully address global warming.
By the way, to address bravozulu's comment, there are different kinds of aerosols. Some cause cooling (i.e. brown clouds), others cause warming (i.e. black soot). You should read the "The Particular Role of Black Carbon" section of Amy's link.
