Do ordinance apply to police officer in Philadelphia?
as title, well because i was reading the ordinance and see bunch of restrictions for bikes, Rollerblade, skateboards and stuff... but does it apply to police officer as well? For example on the ordinance 10-610 number (2) no person shall use a skateboard, rollerblades or a bicycle on portions of private property... well if there's a bike police officer, can he ride his bike through/in a private property? Is police excluded from the ordinance?! And if so, do you think police officer is over powered and should be limit to ordinance? or if not, do you think they should be excluded? Thanks!
Usually ordinances do not apply to Police/Fire/EMS as long as they are carrying out their duties. If the officer rides into a park on a bicycle for patrol he is most likely exempt from the law while he is on duty. He would not be allowed to come back when he is off work on his personal bike and do the same thing because he would not be carrying out his work duty. I don't think that makes him "overpowered," he should have his bike with him when he is working. Knowing that people aren't quite honest I think if he left it at the gate to walk around it would most likely be gone when he returned.
